National Bank of Pakistan Students Loan 2020-21

The government of Pakistan launched Student Loan Scheme for Education purposes and the collaboration is with major banks of Pakistan (NBP, UBL, HBL, MCB, and ABL) and the announcement was made by Federal Finance Minister in the 2001-2002 budget. 

Students who have financial problems in continuing their studies in the scientific, technical, and professional fields in Pakistan. 

The scheme will give financial assistance for such students by way of an Interest-Free Loan. The administrator of the scheme is the National Bank of Pakistan. 

Eligibility Criteria for NBP student Loan


The students who can meet the conditions are eligible to apply for the loan as per the scheme: 

1. The admission of the student should be on merit as per the normal procedure of the university or college. 

2. The student must be enrolled in a Public sector institution. 

3. A list of the approved universities and colleges are given on www.nbp.com.pk 

4. Student age must be in the range as described below: 

  • Graduation: The age of the student should not exceed 21 years 
  • Post-Graduation: Age should not exceed 31 years.
  • Ph.D.: The age of the applicant should not exceed 36 years.

5. The student should have 70% marks in his/her last examination attempted in the public sector. 

6. The student should have a lack of financial resources and support to pursue his/her studies. 

7. His/her subjects must be one of them as described here. 

8. Students of all Public Sector Universities and campuses are eligible for the Loan Scheme which can meet the eligibility criteria of the Scheme. 

Approved Subjects for NBP Loan

Following is the list of approved subjects according to the scheme criteria. Students having one of them are eligible to apply.

  • Electronics
  • Oil Gas & Petro-Chemical Technology
  • Agriculture
  • Medicine
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Biology,
  • Molecular Biology & Genetics

  • DAWA and Islamic Jurisprudence (LLB/LL.M Sharia)
  • Computer Science/Information System and Technology including hardware.

Types of Loan


The scheme will provide a loan facility for the whole study period. The following expenses will be covered by the bank. 

1. Schedule Fee:


The fee of the semester or year as per schedule is directly paid to the university or college. 

2. Boarding Charges:


Hostel expenses and mess charges are directly paid to the Hostel as per the scheme. 

3. Payment for the textbooks:


Money to buy textbooks will be directly given to the student.

Repayment of Loan


The maximum time range to repay the loan is of 10 years after the disbursement date of the first installment. The applicant or student will repay the loan in monthly installments. 

He/she will repay the monthly installment after 6 months of the first employment date. In other cases, he/she will repay the loan installments monthly after one year of completion of studies.

1.       Applicants or students can easily get Applications Form designated branches of NBP. One can also download the application from the official website of the National Bank of Pakistan. The link is given below:

2.       It is advised that the applicant/student should submit two sets of the Loan Application form. Students who are enrolled in this scheme in the last/previous years are not eligible to apply again.


3.       It is advised that the student should submit their application form in the prescribed manner. The form should be completed through all respects and must be submitted in the designated branches.


4.       Students who wanted to avail of this NBP Student Loan Scheme can also apply for financial assistance subject through the decided procedure as he/she got admission on merit in the approved Universities or colleges.


5.       The form should be submitted by the given date as per the scheme. Incomplete application or application with errors will not be considered by the authority.

Documents and attachments Required for the loan


Applicants will not be considered if not properly filled and the following documents are not attached. 

1. Attested Photographs of the students by the person of the rank BPS-17 or more. (Two Copies) 

2. Attested Photocopies of Fee Challan/Slip demanded by the University or college. 

3. Attested Photocopies of the Hostel expenses slip and meal charges by the university. 

4. The income certificate of the employer should be attached to Application Form to ensure the service as Government or Semi-Govt. or Private. 

5. In the case of self-employed, Income certificate from the Union counsel of your area should be attached. 

6. Original certificate from the Principal/Registrar/Vice-Chancellor of the University which confirms the date of admission at the session and date of completion of the study period. Must include session, admission, and completion date. 

7. Four Self-addressed envelopes with clearly mentioned permanent, temporary, and hostel address. The size of the Envelope should be 5 X 11. 

8. The current Year fee and remaining fee must be clearly entered in order to avoid any calculation mistakes regarding fee structure. 

Attested photocopies need to be attached are: 

● Domicile 
● Computerized NIC of Parent and Student 
● All Educational certificates 
● SSC and HSC certificate 
● Degrees
● Mark Sheet or Transcript of the Last Examination 

The scheme will consider applicants on merit which depends upon the availability of funds. Applicants who submit incomplete unsigned, or mistaken forms will not be entertained. Candidates with not necessary documents in the form or apply the due date will not be considered.
